Colima

Colima is the smallest state in Mexico and also one of the most intense: the Volcán de Colima, known as the "Volcano of Fire" and considered the most active in North America, visually and psychologically defines the entire state with its columns of smoke and periodic eruptions. Living under an active volcano gives Colima's culture a unique everyday reality, between admiration and respect for nature.

Manzanillo is the most important port on the Mexican Pacific for international trade and, at the same time, a tourist destination with dark volcanic sand beaches, world-famous marlin and tuna fishing, and a spectacular sunset over the double bay. Las Brisas and la Audiencia are the most popular beaches; Santiago offers a quieter, more family-friendly atmosphere.

Comala, just 10 kilometers from the capital, is considered the whitest town in Mexico: its cobblestone streets, whitewashed walls, and purple bougainvillea have appeared in hundreds of photographs. Legend says that Comala was the inspiration for "Comala," the ghost town in Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo. Its restaurants and the offering of botanas with tamarind punch make Comala an essential visit.

Tejuino and tuba—a refreshing drink made from fermented coconut palm sap, sold by the cylinder on the streets of Manzanillo—are drinks unique to Colima. Enchilado lomo tortas and pozole of black corn are gastronomic sources of pride that Colimans defend with fervor.
