History
Mexico's beaches have been inhabited by pre-Hispanic cultures for millennia. The Mayas built Tulum atop Caribbean cliffs to honor their sea gods. The Aztecs controlled trade along both coasts. Cancún and Los Cabos have international airports with direct flights from Mexico City, the USA, and Europe. Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán have national airports with frequent connections. For more remote beaches like Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, flights connect through Mexico City or Oaxaca.
