Las mejores playas de México — Caribe, Pacífico y Golfo

GO MEXICOExperiencesPlayas

Mexico boasts more than 11,000 km of coastline stretching across the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea. From the turquoise waters of Quintana Roo to the epic waves of Oaxaca and the desert landscapes of Baja California — no other country offers such extraordinary beach diversity.

History

Mexico's beaches have been inhabited by pre-Hispanic cultures for millennia. The Mayas built Tulum atop Caribbean cliffs to honor their sea gods. The Aztecs controlled trade along both coasts. In the 20th century, Cancún was born from nothing in 1974 as a federal government tourism project — today it welcomes over 6 million visitors annually. Puerto Vallarta was discovered by the world when John Huston filmed "The Night of the Iguana" there in 1963. Puerto Escondido became a surf mecca after international surfers discovered it in the 1970s. Today Mexico ranks as the tenth most visited tourist destination on the planet.
