Vendimia de Baja California

The Vendimia of Baja California is the Mexican wine harvest season in the Guadalupe Valley, the most important wine region in Mexico and all of Latin America. During August, the valley's 150 wineries open their doors for private tastings, food and wine pairing festivals, vineyard concerts, and gala dinners with Mexico's finest chefs. The Guadalupe Valley produces 90% of Mexico's wine, and its wines have won international awards in Paris, London, and San Francisco.

History

The Guadalupe Valley was colonized by Russian Mennonite immigrants in the early twentieth century who introduced vine cultivation. In the 1980s, Mexican winemakers began developing their own varieties adapted to the valley's unique microclimate—influenced by Pacific Ocean breezes. Today the Guadalupe Valley is Mexico's fastest-growing gastronomic destination, with vineyard restaurants appearing on lists of the world's best.
