TAZI — Alternative Tourism in Indigenous Zones — is a cooperative of Tzotzil and Tzeltal indigenous tour guides from the Highlands of Chiapas, founded in 2001 with support from the Autonomous University of Chiapas. Tours are operated directly by members of the communities of San Juan Chamula, Zinacantán, Tenejapa, and Amatenango del Valle, with 100% of income staying within the communities. Experiences include visits to textile workshops, participation in healing rituals with traditional healers (with community permission), and hikes through the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.

🗺️ How to get there

Based in San Cristóbal de las Casas. Flight to Tuxtla Gutiérrez (1.5 hours from Mexico City) + 1.5 hours by car. The cooperative provides hotel pickup in downtown San Cristóbal.

💰 Approximate prices

Half-day tour: $450 MXN per person. Full-day tour with lunch: $850 MXN per person. Night ritual tour: $1,200 MXN per person (maximum 8 people). Minimum 2 people per booking.
